Our WSL team notched their first League win in a confidence-building match against the Olympia Warriors last Sunday (3-1). Our home side dominated the first half of the game, with Caity Riley and Daisy Parsell both capitalising on defensive errors to score a goal a piece. After a prolonged half-time due to an unfortunate head injury, both teams were back on the park battling out the remainder of the game, with Parsell nabbing another goal when she confidently smashed a penalty into the back of the net.

Our Women’s Championship team played a valiant first half against University SC even though they were without a full team. Unfortunately they had to forfeit the match after the first half due to being extremely short on players. Our Women’s Championship 1 team also struggled with putting 11 players on the field last week, bravely facing Nelson Eastern Suburbs with 10 on the team sheet. Sophie Booth managed to score in the 2nd half, but her lone goal was not enough to prevent a 1-4 loss.

Our Men’s Championship team are back to their winning ways after a 6-0 win over our neighbouring Kingborough Lions, with the victory keeping them in the top half of the ladder (Fergus Bridge, 1, Sam James, 1, Luke Warrener, Jake Stuart, 2).

In the preceding game, our Men’s Championship 1 team seemed to have a slow start, with the score resting at a risky 1-0 in favour of our Pirates as they took to the second half. But in true Taroona fashion, it took a short while for our sailors to find their sea-legs. They eventually had a thumping victory (8-0) over their Kingborough opponents, with David Abbott nabbing a hat trick, Darragh Carey a brace, and Alexander Clarke, Jasper Gardner, and Jeremy Stevens each adding a goal to the final tally. Our Men’s Championship 3 game also had a high goal-count, but unfortunately our team couldn’t find the win. After a tight first half, they eventually lost 4-6 to the Barnstoneworth Scrappers (Jack Leitch, 1, Kaspar Deane, 1, Beau Dupen, 2).

Most of our senior teams now have a short break while the Cup games are played this weekend, with our WSL team taking on Metro FC in the Women’s Statewide Cup Quarter Final on Friday night, if the weather permits. Wednesday night sees them playing again, this time at Kelvedon for a catchup Round 3 game against South Hobart.
