Our WSL Pirates have had a busy week, travelling to Floorworld Park last weekend to take on ladder-leaders Launceston United. The game was well fought but ended 0-5 in favour of the opposition. Tuesday night saw an early Round 13 being played at Warrior Park where our Pirates had a much better result, taking the game 4-0. An energetic first half saw Mia Fujiura open the score with a goal at 7 minutes, with Daisy Parsell contributing a brace to put our WSL squad well ahead before half time. Later in the game, Kiri Bain’s perfectly placed corner saw Caity Riley flick the ball effortlessly over the Olympia keeper and into the goal, sealing the win at 4-0. The WSL squad now has a short break before taking on Kingborough Lions next weekend, where they will be looking to overtake them on the ladder if they can manage a win at Kelvie.

Our Women’s Championship team spent Sunday afternoon at Olinda Grove battling a strong University SC side (0-9), while our Championship 1 team were out at Warrior Park taking on Newtown Eagles (2-6) where Shani Reid and Yvette Cross battled their way onto the score sheet but ultimately could not nab the win. Meanwhile, our Men’s Championship 3 team were at Kelvedon taking on the Barnstoneworth Scrappers. A goal by Kaspar Deane, as well as an own goal, put our Pirates ahead at half time, however they couldn’t keep the lead, settling for a 3-3 tie.

Last Saturday saw our Men’s Championship team taking on Hobart United at Gunn Oval, where the opposition led the game going into the fiery second half, however an equaliser by Fergus Bridge granted our Pirates a 1-1 draw and keeps them in close contention for a second-place ladder position. The previous game saw Henry Ralph vs Hobart United, as the star striker tallied a whopping 5 goals to seal the Men’s Championship 1 team’s 6-1 victory. Our Senior Men’s sides now look to take on South Hobart at home this Saturday in an exciting double header that’s not to be missed!

Our Under 18’s team claimed a 3-2 victory against Clarence Zebras Black last Wednesday under the lights at Kelvedon Park (goals by Jett McComb, Joshua King, and Aidan Taylor). According to team manager, Derek Harnwell, the night provided a “Terrific all round performance with special mentions to Aiden Taylor’s leadership and Otto Newstead relentless running after a period of illness. Clarence took the lead in the first half due to a Kelvedon sand dune providing an unlucky deflection and maintained it until the break. The Pirates came out strongly in the second half and 3 goals in 10 minutes rewarded their long periods of dominance. Great game to watch and I encourage any locals seeing the Kelvedon lights shining on a Wednesday night to come down and support this group of constantly improving young sportsmen.”
