Last Saturday’s home game spectacular did not quite go our way, despite all three of our senior teams battling it out till the final whistle. In the Men’s Championship 1 game, our Pirates took on the Newtown Eagles and had a promising first half, leading the game 1-0 when returning to the field thanks to a penalty by Toby Dove. Unfortunately, they couldn’t keep the lead and after a barrage of Newtown attacks the game ended 2-6. A more recent catchup game on Tuesday night also went the opposition’s way, with our Champ 1 lads being defeated 2-4 on Tuesday night by South Hobart.
Our Men’s Championship Pirates also had tough opponents in the White Eagles on Sautrday. Although they put up an incredible fight, two late Eagles goals sealed their 0-2 loss. Our WSL team didn’t fare any better, again, putting in a valiant effort and returning to the field after half time looking to take back the game. A couple of quick goals from the opposition ultimately put our Pirates on the back foot though, and the travelling Devonport Strikers ultimately won the game 0-6.
On Sunday, our Women’s Championship 1 team were up at Mt Nelson, and held strong in the first half against the ladder leaders, but eventually lost the game 0-4. Our Men’s Championship 3 team were at home taking on the Kingborough Lions. They started the second half down 1-4 and put in a tenacious effort, almost looking as though they could win the game, but had to settle for a 3-4 loss. Our U18’s team tied with Hobart City Beachside FC in their most recent mid-week clash, with Aidan Taylor’s goal providing the 1-1 scoreline.
Best of luck to all our teams in their upcoming games this weekend. Make sure to come along to Kelvedon this Saturday to catch our senior Men’s teams’ clash with our Kingborough counterparts!
