Last Friday night saw an unfortunately familiar scenario play out for our Social Men’s team. After leading the Barnstoneworth Scrappers at half-time (2-1), our Pirates couldn’t hold onto the lead, and the SC3 Cup winners eventually stole the game (2-4). On Saturday our WSL Pirates travelled up North to take on Launceston United. They put up an incredible fight and kept the score even for nearly all of the first half, but a goal to the opposition in the 44th minute set course for the remainder of the game, with our Pirates ultimately losing 0-5. Our Women’s Championship team took on the league ladder leaders at Kelvedon, and also had a particularly well-fought first half, but the Uni Bees took the game 0-10.

On Saturday our Senior Men’s teams were out at Empire Couriers Park taking on the Olympia Warriors and notched a couple of comfortable wins. Our Men’s Championship 1 team stayed on top of the game from the get go, with goals by Fergus Fletcher, Jonas Rutheford, and Darragh Carey sealing the 3-0 win. Afterwards, our Men’s Championship Pirates started the game with an early goal by Sam James, but the opposition then took the lead 1-2 by half time. Our lads rose to the challenge though, with goals by Fergus Bridge, Jasper Gardner, Oliver Maxwell, and a hat trick by Jake Stuart demolishing the Warriors with a scathing 7-2 victory.

Our Men’s Championship team now plays Metro FC at Kelvedon this Saturday, in their last home game of the season. We are hosting the Carey family as a way to send off Martin Carey, an amazing supporter and club member. If you would like to join the Careys in celebrating Martin’s life and in saying farewell, please feel free to drop into the Kelvedon Clubrooms from 2.30pm, and watch the football, have a drink and some food, and share a story or two about this club legend.

Wishing all teams playing this weekend the best of luck!
