Last weekend saw our Men's Championship Pirates take on Nelson Eastern Suburbs FC in the first round of the Summer Cup. It gave both teams a chance to try out the brand new artificial turf at KGV Park, and the conditions seemed to work well in our favour.
Aidan Taylor added his name to the score sheet early in the match, scoring at the 6 minute mark. He also scored early in the second half, and picked up a slice of cheese later in the game, rounding out a very passionate performance. Fergus Bridge proved to be the Pizzarazzi Player of the Match for this round, giving an epic effort throughout the whole game and totalling an astounding 5 goals. Additional goal scorers were Toby Dove and Thomas Watson, who contributed to the resounding 9-0 victory. A massive congratulations to our Senior Men's team, who surely could not have asked for a better result from the opening round. They now look forward to taking on Olympia FC Warriors on Sunday.
In the Women's Summer Cup, we see our Pirates taking on the Clarence Zebras in their opening round. After a great win in their recent practice match against WSL Title holders, Launceston United, our Senior Women's squad should be looking forward to testing out the Southern teams in the competition before the season proper begins. With so many players being shuffled around in the WSL, the Summer Cup provides a great opportunity to solidify the core team that remains in Taroona FC's WSL squad, and to integrate our new and younger players. Our Senior Women's team takes to the new KGV Park this Sunday at 12.30pm.
Wishing both our senior teams the best of luck in their games, it should be a great day of football so be sure to get on out and support our Pirates at KGV!
