The 2023 season has started in full force, with a wonderful batch of home games lined up over the next few weeks. We're hoping for sunny skies and that signature sea-breeze at Kelvedon this weekend, so make sure you get on out and support our Pirates at home!
Last weekend saw most of our senior teams kicking off the new season. Our Men's Championship Reserves started the schedule bright and early on Saturday morning, debuting our classy new playing strips. They took on Hobart City Beachside, in a close match that was ultimately won 3-2. Toby Dove, Gabriel Easton, and Ted Moffitt all contributed their names to the score sheet, with skipper Alex Clarke providing a confident performance and leading our Pirates to victory. Our Men's Championship team was also victorious against their HC Beachside opposition, outplaying the blues in an exciting and dominant display. Fergus Bridge, Noah Gardner, Tom Roberts, and Fabian Natoli all supplying goals, making the final tally 4-0.
Our WSL Pirates could not keep up the winning streak, unfortunately, losing their opening round match against the travelling Launceston United SC 0-5. Mei Booker and Daisy Parsell's efforts up front were swathed time and time again by Launceston's defence, and Maeve Dunbabin's header was denied by a cheeky goal post early in the game. WSL youngster, Esther Graham-Smith, put in an impressive work-rate, but was sidelined in the second half due to a foot injury. The WSL squad welcomed Fiona Wise and Jade Walker to the Taroona Football Club, and we look forward to seeing more of these phenomenal new additions throughout the season.
Come along to Kelvedon this weekend for another round of exciting home games! We wish all our Pirates the best of luck in their battles.
