It was a quiet weekend over the Easter break, with our WSL Pirates having drawn a bye for their first round of the Women’s Statewide Cup leaving our Men’s Championship team as the lone performers. Saturday saw our Pirates at Wentworth Park taking on the Clarence Zebras NPL team in the Lakoseljac Cup. Our Pirates found themselves down 0-4 at halftime, but put in a gritty second half to minimise the scoreline as much as they could, exiting the cup with a 0-5 loss. This weekend sees another round of Cup matches with the opening rounds of the Men’s Southern Championship Reserves Cup and Men’s Southern Championship Cup kicking off at Kelvedon. Come and support our lads as they take on the Olympia Warriors.
We were treated with a mid-week feature at home as our Social Men’s team started their Cup campaign with a bang. After having the silverware slip through their fingers in last year’s Men’s Social Division 2 Cup Grand Final, it looks like they’re chasing the plunder with a vengeance this time around. Our Pirates hosted South Hobart FC at Kelvedon on Wednesday evening, and after finding themselves 0-1 down in the first half our Pirates decided to channel their Easter choccy energy. Pascal Gee and Lachlan Donnet-Jones scored in half one, while Kaspar Deane contributed a hat trick and Alex Edwards netted the final goal in half two to award them a 6-3 victory as they progress to the next round.
This weekend sees another triple header at Kelvedon on Saturday, with the Cup games kicking off at 10am and 12.15pm, and our WSL Pirates taking on Devonport Strikers at 2.30pm. We hope to see our supporters at Kelvie in full force! Don’t forget that beanies and scarves are available at the Kiosk, as well as our great assortment of hot and cold food and beverages.
