Match Centre

Saturday morning saw our Senior Men’s teams kick off their League Cup games against Olympia Warriors FC. In the Championship Reserves match, Fergus Bridge took control of the game early, scoring a cheeky hat-trick in the first half and securing the 3-1 victory. They now look forward to taking on Hobart United FC this Saturday and we hope they can continue their winning streak in Round 4 of the League.

Our Men’s Championship Pirates also found a victory in their League Cup game, in a nail-biting battle at Kelvedon. Jasper Gardner opened the scoring early into the match, only for the Warriors to equalise shortly before the half time whistle. Gabriel Easton managed to add his name to the score sheet as the match resumed, but moments later Olympia equalised again. With extra time looming, Oliver Maxwell decided to steal the game with an 89th minute goal, sending our lads through to the next round of the Championship League Cup.

Our Women’s Super League team are still fighting the off-field battle of healing injured players. Luckily, they were blessed with a cameo appearance from Taroona FC legend Holly-Lace Ayton, who flew in from London on Saturday morning when she heard her Pirates needed an extra crew member. Holly-Lace was an imposing presence in goals and made some great reaction saves, combining with Maeve Dunbabin and Pizzarazzi POTM, Fiona Wise, to shut down many attacks from the Devonport Strikers. Unfortunately, the team could not prevent the 1-7 loss, but many positives were displayed throughout the game. Daisy Parsell scored our WSL team’s first League goal, and the Pirates kept the second half almost scoreless - showing they can match the best teams in the competition when they steady their sea-legs.

Our Social Women's team took on Hobart City Beachside at Sandown Park on Sunday afternoon. It was a tough battle, but our Pirates couldn't snag a win this week. Well done to Sophie Nash and Shane Grace Reid for nabbing a brace each, making the final score 4-9. A big congrats to our Social Men's team for their win against the Glenorchy Knights FC on Sunday. In the 6-3 victory Beau Dupen, David Abbott, and Kaspar Deane each scored two goals a-piece. Well done Pirates!

Best of luck to all our teams playing this weekend, and don’t forget to tune in to NPL.tv on Sunday at 2pm to watch our travelling WSL team take on Launceston United SC.
