Our weekend started under the Friday night lights at Kelvedon, in a game that was scheduled as an away match but was relocated due to the construction still happening at Lightwood Park. Our WSL Pirates had a shaky start, finding themselves down 0-6 in the first 39 minutes of the game. In the bizarrely heated clash, our Pirates dug deep and kept fighting, with skipper, Daisy Parsell, scoring a fantastic lob before halftime to give the team some hope. Super Subs Holly-Lace Ayton, Somali Buamee, and Jaylynn Barton made their presence felt in the second half, with Holly-Lace parting a sea of defenders and scoring in the 65th minute. Unfortunately the game ended with a 2-6 loss, but our Pirates look forward to incorporating their newest American addition more in future games, especially this weekend against a young Clarence Zebras outfit.
Saturday saw some key victories on our Senior Men’s side, when they hosted South East United at Kelvedon. Our Championship Ressies dominated their game, with Toby Dove scoring in each half, and Nick Kains and the impressive young debutant, Joel Terhell, each scoring a goal to bring the final score to 4-0 in favour of our Pirates. Later, our Men’s Championship side had a slightly harder challenge in their game, finding themselves down 0-2 mid-way through the first half. They managed to dig deep and muster a few goals of their own thanks to Fergus Bridge and Jasper Gardner. Coming back onto the field after half-time our lads were still training the game 2-3, but they put the last 45 behind them and stole the game in true Pirate fashion. Pizzarazzi Player of the Match, Fergus Bridge, was able to net another two goals, and Rami Vilar also put one away, bringing the score to 5-3. Well done Pirates!
In our Men’s Social game, our Pirates travelled to Wellesley Park to take on South Hobart. The game resulted in a 0-0 tie, but judging by the two yellow cards awarded in the second half - the game was far from uneventful. Our Women’s Social team were out at KVG, where they were hosted by the Glenorchy Knights FC. They put up a great battle but ultimately lost the game 0-11.
Our U16 Girls Black team took on Clarence Zebras last weekend at Kelvedon Park with a fantastic result! They absolutely dominated the second half and won the game 4-1. A huge congratulations to Mollie Stubbs for scoring a brace, and to Imogen Muller and Grace Walker for each netting a goal and contributing to the win. A huge thanks to Chris Goodey for capturing all the action, which can be seen in the gallery below.
Best of luck to all our teams playing at home and away this weekend!
