Our WSL Pirates had a breakthrough match on Saturday when they travelled up North to take on the Devonport Strikers at Valley Rd. American import, Jaylynn Barton, made an early impact when she took a well-calculated risk and pressed a goal kick at the top of Devonport’s 18 yard box, winning the ball and slotting it away in the net to give our Pirates the lead only 8 minutes into the game. The score was equalised late in the first half, but our Pirates were happy to earn their first point of the season and are still hungry for their first league win.
Our Senior Men’s teams both took on Metro FC at Kelvedon Park on Saturday, with each team nabbing important wins. Our Championship Reserves team dominated their game, winning 6-0. Pizzarazzi Player of the Match, Gabe Easton, netted 4 goals of his own, with Ben Schaap’s brace rounding out the score. The high-scoring victory should keep them at the top of the League ladder, and will put some wind in their sails with their eagle Cup match against South Hobart FC on the horizon.
Our Men’s Championship Pirates are only just trailing University FC on the ladder, so they would have been breathing a sigh of relief after managing to reclaim Saturday’s match in the later stages of the game. Oliver Maxwell opened the scoring 25 minutes in, with University equalising in the 69th minute. It was up to Fergus Bridge and Noah Gardener to add their goals in the dying moments of the game, as well as POTM Fab Natoli helping to wrestle back control of the midfield to get our Pirates back on course for the 3-1 victory. Our Men’s Championship and Championship Reserves teams now look towards Wednesday evening at KGV, where they will take on South Hobart FC in the League Cup games.
On Sunday, our Social Women’s team and Social Men’s teams were both at Kelvedon, with our Women’s side ultimately being defeated by Hobart City Beachside FC 0-4, and our Men’s side also suffering a 1-3 loss at the hands of DOSA FC. This weekend, we will be wishing good luck to our two Youth teams, who are competing in the Devonport Cup. We have our U14 Mixed team, coached by Riley Pitchford, and our U15/16 Girls, coached by player/coach Cholada Gale representing Taroona FC. Our U15/16 Girls will be combining with players from Burnie United.
Best of luck to all our Pirates this coming week!
