Last weekend marked WSL Captain Daisy Parsell’s 200th senior game for Taroona FC, which is an even bigger feat considering she is the first female in Tasmania to ever reach that game milestone for a single club! Last weekend’s WSL match against Launceston United SC was looking a little iffy due to the constant rain on Friday night, but thanks to a little sunshine, sand, and a few buckets and spades, Kelvedon was open for business by Saturday afternoon.

The game started in spectacular fashion, with our back-line staple, Maeve Dunbabin being let loose up front for a change. It took only 22 seconds for Karen Wills to feel confident in her coaching decision, when Maeve scored a fantastic solo goal after storming the Launceston United defence. The game looked fairly even for the majority of the match, with Daisy Parsell coming close to netting her 112th senior goal multiple times, and super sub, Sumali Buamee, hitting the top crossbar with an almost excellent strike in the second half. Ultimately, our Pirates were not able to nab their first win, with the travelling Northerners taking out the game 1-2, scoring the late-game clincher in the final minute. A huge thank you to Launceston United SC for being a wonderful team to host for such a momentous occasion. They took the initiative to create a guard of honour before and after the match to help celebrate Daisy’s special day, and showed a phenomenal display of sportsmanship during the game, as always.

On Sunday our Social Pirates took to Kelvedon Park, with our Women’s team hosting Glenorchy Knights FC (0-10) and our Men’s team hosting New Norfolk Panthers SC (0-5). Our Senior Men’s teams return to League games this weekend after having a bye in Round 9. They will no doubt be itching to take on Hobart City Beachside FC for the second time around this season, after notching good results against both their Championship and Championship Reserves sides earlier this year.

Best of luck to all our Pirates this weekend!
