Last weekend’s matches kicked off under the Friday night lights at Metro FC where our Men’s Championship Reserves absolutely dominated the opposition. The 20 minute mark saw Tom Roberts scoring his first of five, and opened up an onslaught of goals which afforded our Pirates a 7-0 lead at half time. The game was eventually won 11-0, which was a phenomenal and confidence boosting result for our Ressies as they continue to chase down the League title in the dying moments of the 2023 season. Scorers were Tom Roberts (5), Fergus Bridge (3), Matt Chapman (1), Jack Hudspeth (1), and Phil Gale (1). Our Men’s Championship squad had a harder time when they took the field, and although skipper Fabian Natoli slotted away a penalty right before the half time whistle, our lads couldn’t keep the lead and eventually lost the game 1-2. It seems they were just saving their energy for Wednesday night’s epic clash against the New Town Eagles, which saw our Pirates lifting the League Cup trophy after winning 3-1 in spectacular fashion. Oliver Maxwell, Jasper Gardner, and Toby Fleming all contributed to the score line, with many more opportunities created but unfortunately denied by some pretty spectacular goalkeeping. You can read Walter Pless’ complete match report for the Southern Championship League Cup Final HERE.

On Sunday, our Social Women’s team nabbed a 2-2 tie against New Town Eagles when they played at Kelvedon Park in one of their most competitive games of the season. Sophie Nash scored a brace, with the team dominating the second half and unlucky to not get a better result. Meanwhile, our WSL team was over at Darcy Street taking on the unbeaten League champions, South Hobart. The game saw our Pirates eventually break South Hobart’s clean sheet record, but they still lost the game 1-2. With 2 games left in the WSL season, we now welcome back a Taroona FC legend in Adelyn Ayton who joins our Women’s squad fresh out of the WNPL season ending in Victoria. Adelyn says: “Karen has been a huge mentor of mine over the years and I’m really excited to play under her and alongside some of my best friends, at a club that has been like a home to me for years. I missed a lot of the Victorian season through injury and so when the opportunity to play some more games at Taroona came up after my season finished, I jumped at it. I can’t wait to finally use the new facilities and have a kick at Kelvedon again (hopefully I don’t get distracted by the view mid game).”

Saturday sees a fantastic lineup of games at Kelvedon, so make sure you get out and support our Pirates this weekend! Best of luck to all our senior players, and best of luck to all our junior and youth teams, parents and volunteers who are taking part in this weekend’s Hobart Cup!
