In our Men’s Champ 1 game, a late goal by the opposition wasn’t enough to prevent a resounding victory from our Pirates, thanks to goal scorers Cameron Bailey, Darlyton Echetama (2), and Adrian Bett. We saw a narrow victory for our Championship Men’s team, with Sam James scoring a brace before half time to put the team ahead 2-1. In the second half he came out and scored another within seconds of the whistle being blown. A fantastic performance from an exceptional player, with last weekend’s game being his 150th played for the Club! The opposition levelled the score, however Toby Fleming managed to save the game in the 89th minute with his last minute goal. Our Championship Men’s team now looks to play their last game of the season on Saturday against League rivals, South East United. Regardless of the game’s outcome they will finish second on the ladder, which is a phenomenal effort, but we hope they can finish their season on a high note.
While the majority of the games on Sunday were washed out due to the persistent and heavy rain, our Women’s Social L2 team clocked a muddy win! Read more from Bill Parsell: “Div 2 social women’s team had their last game over the weekend, and what a great game it was! A real tussle... two good teams going head to head in an enthralling passing game... the Taroona Div 2 women’s team won out in the end... it was a game that the Pirates all showed their strength across the park. Sophie Booth had a brace and was unlucky to have a 3rd disallowed for (questionable) offside. Our player of the match was Lucie Johnston who scored not only 2 of our 5 goals but ran all day both in attack and in defence... well done Lucie enjoy your pizza.” While the Div 2 Women can start their off season, much loved coach and club legend, Bill Parsell, still has 2 more games with his Div 1 team that he also coaches.
Check out game times for this weekend below, and best of luck to all our teams and players this weekend!
