............................................................................................................................................................................Taroona FC league 1 Mens Reserves have taken the title with a 1-0 victory over second placed University SC. Taroona needed either a draw or the win to seal the number one spot for 2011. Taroona were given the lead early in the first half courtesy of wonder strike by Brett Mathews from deep on the left wing. The cross, come shot deceived the University keeper and rocketed into the back corner of the net. The Ressies then battled it out for the remainder of the game, never looking in much danger and holding for a memorable victory. Congratulations to the entire Reserves squad and coach John Burridge.
Taroona’s Senior Men were held to a dull nil all draw against league 1 Champions, University SC. Despite being an effective dead rubber, the match was poised to be an exciting encounter between the league’s two best teams. Unfortunately neither side was able to find the back of the net, as Taroona struggled to find a flow to its passing game on a bobbly Kelvedon Park and Uni’s Julian Proud was kept quiet by the centre back paring of Ben Schaap and Tom Young. Taroona FC wishes University SC well in its first season back in the Premier League since 2009
............................................................................................................................................................................Taroona defeated Hobart United 1-0 in a close tussle at Kelvedon Park on the weekend. Taroona needed a win to maintain its outside chance of promotion to the premier league; however these hopes were dashed when University claimed the 2011 League One title with a win against Nelson Eastern Suburbs. Taroona started confidently in the opening 20 minutes and were able to produce a number of chances but were unable to convert. United begun to find their feet however, dictating across the middle of the park and applying consistent pressure on the Taroona defense. Despite Hobart losing a player through dissent in the second half their confidence grew and Taroona again found itself on the back foot. The game dissolved into an end to end tussle and following a Hobart one on one, and a swift Taroona counter Hoppitt was able to touch the ball over the united keeper and give Taroona the lead with only minutes remaining. Taroona take on League champions, University SC in the final game of the season at Kelvedon next weekend.............................................................................................................................................................................
Senior Mens Round One Match Report 15/3/11
Taroona began their 2011 League One title challenge with a less-than-convincing 2-1 home victory over Nelson Eastern Suburbs on Saturday.
Nelson had a string of early chances, with Taroona lucky not to concede on several occasions in the opening fifteen minutes. Probably half of these chances were the result of unnecessary turnovers when playing the ball out from defence, with the other half stemming from a combination of defensive disorganisation and a lack of midfield pressure.
To Taroona's credit however, initial errors did not lead them to abandon their passing game, and a string of well-crafted short passes led to Hamish MacGregor being fouled when attacking down the left flank. Hamish's free-kick created problems the Nelson defence could not deal with, and Taroonas account was opened when a Nelson defender headed into his own net.
Taroona's second goal came shortly after, following a fluent passive move which involved two switches of play. This move created space for Jordan Wright, whose powerful shot struck the right-hand post. The rebound then fell to the well-positioned Dave Hoppitt, who finished confidently with his left shin.
The second half, despite coach Gary Slicers instructions to the contrary, began in typical Taroona fashion. Taroona's opening twenty minutes were characterised by poor decision-making, sloppy passing and a general lack of composure. Accordingly, Nelson were able to pull a goal back with approximately thirty minutes remaining.
Goal-scoring opportunities were distributed fairly evenly between the two sides for the remainder of the match. Goalkeeper Jon Burridge was forced to produce several good saves from distance, while striker Dave Hoppitt was unlucky not to double his tally when his header stuck the upright. Duncan Carey was excellent when coming on as a substitute, combining dribbling skill with effort to trouble a tiring Nelson backline.
Other League One results highlighted the importance of the result, with promotion rivals Metro unable to overcome Hobart United in a 3-3 draw. If Taroona can overcome Metro next week, then this will open up a five point gap between the two sides a terrific advantage so early in the season.
However, a number of things must be quickly improved if this is to be achieved. Firstly, Taroona must find a solution to their infamous start-of-the-half curse. Communication and leadership seem to be the key here. Secondly, an increased speed of ball movement and greater ability to switch play will be required against a more physical Metro side. The Taroona players have the technical ability to rectify this and should do so with increased concentration, communication and composure. Finally, training during the week will need to aim to improve cohesion between the centre-back pairing, as this at times created unnecessary opportunities for Nelson which a better side such as Metro might more easily capitalise upon.

Taroona Women win State Finals Series Trophy (20/9/10)
Taroona's premier womens team are state champions after defeating Clarence 3-2 at KGV on Saturday, in the inaugural grand final of the state finals series. They fought back hard after being 2-1 down midway in the first half. Tolman opened the account for Taroona, against the run of play, when Prescott attacked down the right and centred the ball allowing for an easy finish. The early lead was short-lived however and the match was again level after the Taroona defence failed to clear a dangerous ball, presenting the Clarence striker with a simple shot on goal. Clarence then gained the lead when Marlugu Dixon completed a great solo effort with a confident strike in to the back of the Taroona net. The Taroona revival begun late in the first half when the Clarence defence almost handed Ayton an easy shot on goal. The second half saw Taroona take control of the game. Taroona levelled when Cretus header rebounded of a Clarence defender and was lifted into the roof of the net. Tolman secured the win for Taroona when she finished a series of attacking moves with a side foot past the keeper. Taroona continued to press on the Clarence goal for the remaineder of the match and were unfortunate not to go further ahead but the one goal margin proved to be enough as Taroona held on for a historic win. The win was also complemented by Taroona co-captain, Hanna Manuela, being awarded player of the match. Taroona's victory is the clubs first silverware in the womens premier competition, a considerable feat considering it was completed by the team in its first year in the competition.

Women reach the final of the Statewide Cup (7/08/10)
Taroona FCs Premier League womens team has reached the final of the Statewide Lakoseljac Cup where they will meet the Tasmanian Institute of Sport. Just making the final itself is a first for the club. Taroona advanced to the final after defeating Ulverstone, at home, 5-2 and will go into the game with strong form after winning its last four games in convincing style, including a 7-3 thumping of powerhouse Olympia FC. However Taroona will be wary of its opponent who has also been devastating form throughout the cup, scoring an amazing 21 goals whilst conceding only 3 on its way to the final. Currently the final is scheduled to be played on the 21st of august, unfortunately further details are yet to be announced.
Hopefully everyone can support the girls as fight to win the statewide cup in its inaugural year in the top flight.

Womens Results (16/5/10)
Taroona FCs Senior womens side met Clarence United at home this weekend in the opening round of the Statewide Cup. Taroona were keen to make amends for their shock 5-1 loss to the same side at the same ground and they did not disappoint, cruising to 2-0 lead by the end of the first half. Clarence provided a more stubborn opposition in the second half, despite conceding a third, they managed to put one past the Taroona keeper with a fantastic long range shot to keep the game alive. Hopes of a comeback were quickly quashed however, when Taroona scored their fourth to seal a comprehensive win over a strong opposition. Final score 4-1.

Mens Results (16/5/10)
Taroona's Senior mens team travelled to Windsor Park this weekend to take on Northern side, Riverside Olympic, in the second round of the Statewide Lakoseljac Cup. The first half saw some good chances squandered in the opening minutes by both sides, until Riverside opened their account with a good strike from the left wing into the bottom right corner of the net. Taroona found the equaliser in the dying seconds of stoppage time of the first half, when Jordan Wright was brought down in the box and Marcus Atkinson put away the spot tick. Taroona came out much stronger after the break and looked dangerous on several occasions, yet Riverside defended stubbornly and tested the Taroona defence on the counter attack, winning a penalty, which was crucially denied by some great goalkeeping from Rick Nettlefold. Scores remained locked at 1-1 at the end of regulation time, requiring extra time to decide which team would progress to the quarter finals. Riverside found a goal mid-way through the first half of extra time when a tame shot took a deflection in the box, wrong footing Nettlefold, and dribbling low into the Taroona goal. Taroona then equalised in the second half of extra time through a great finish from Jack Elliot, controlling a cross and driving the ball into the right hand corner of the net. Taroona's equaliser was in vain however as Riverside again troubled the Taroona defence on the counter and won a vital penalty, which was this time put away, to seal the match for the Home side 3-2.

Men Results(7/5/10)
Taroona's senior mens teams put on their best performance in the Premier League to date on Friday night, defeating the Tilford Zebras 4-3 in the seniors and 2-1 in the reserves. The reserves kicked things off with a strong performance across the park. Tom Ritchie was a stand out in the first half, beating his defender consistently, however he was unable to translate it into a result on the scoreboard, scores remained locked at nil all at the break. Matt Hedge broke the deadlock in the second half and Taroona quickly went on to grab a second, however a third goal was denied when Hedge put his second penalty attempt wide after bagging the first disallowed spot kick. Zebras returned fire, but it seemed a case of too little too late, Taroona held on for a comfortable 2-1 win. The seniors put together its best half of attacking football against a strong Zebras outfit, racing to a 3-0 lead by the end of the first half from goals by Gary Hamilton, Hugo Luttmer and Toby Dove. Zebras were far from dead however and the second half saw a reversal of form. A sometimes unstoppable Ben Croswell led his team's revival, scoring a crucial hatrick to level the game at 3-3. Taroona somehow managed to grab the game winner when Hamilton was brought done in the box by Telega and new recruit, David Abbott, put away the spot kick to win the game in the 92 minute.

Mens Fourth Round Results (4/04/10)
A well under strength Taroona u19s kicked of the first away games for the season, meeting New Town Eagles at Clare Street. With many players away on Easter holidays the u19s battled hard with eight men but were finally underdone by a solitary goal, finally going down 1-0. The reserves started strong dominating much of the play for the first half, resulting in some nice play down the right wing, a strong cross and a composed header from Saad to make the score 1-0 going into the break. Taroona found themselves on the back foot for most of the second half however, eventually succumbing to 2-1 to Eagles. Taroona Seniors never gave themselves a chance, leaking three unanswered goals from poor tackling and defensive blunders. Under constant pressure from dangerous through balls Taroona continued to try and move the ball around on the ground in tight spaces, but this rarely resulted in a clear shot on the oppositions goal. Taroona put on a more stubborn and improved performance in the second half, continuing to move the ball around well, we started to find some dangerous balls to test the New Town defence. This resulted in Gary Hamilton winning a penalty, which was tucked away by Marcus Atkinson. Final score: 3-1 Eagles.
Womens Third Round Results (29/03/10)
Taroona's Premier Womens side produced a dominant display over University in their third round encounter at Kelvedon. They worked the ball around well and were rarely troubled by university, running out victors 6-1. A well under strength reserves team should also be commended for playing most of the match with eight women sometimes nine and still managing to find a 1-0 victory!

Mens Third Round Results (28/03/10)
Taroona FC faced Clarence in the third round of the Forestry Tasmania Premier League at Kelvedon Park. The under 19s produced another win, this time over Clarence, defeating them 2-0. Sam James and Hiroshi linked well down the left wing, eventually resulting in a goal whilst Tom Young got the second. Reserves, however, battled out a nil all draw to maintain their middle of the table position. The seniors looked strong for much of the first half of the match forcing several free kicks and corners in the attacking half, but with no result. Pressure from Hugo Luttmer and a quality finish from Gary Hamilton, rounding the keeper and slotting it the net, made it 1-0 going into the break. Clarence came out very strong in the opening minutes of the half putting away 2 quick goals, however the seniors managed to regain some composure to find the equaliser and salvage a point from the draw.
